From Iwokrama, we travelled to Surama. There are two options. You can arrange with the minibus company to take you (price unknown, and you would need to add the price from the crossing to Surama itself) or you can arrange with Iwokrama or Surama. In our case, we arranged it with Iwokrama. We actually shared the ride with some staff that were going in that direction to catch a flight, so we paid a bit less. Ask them to share the ride. We organize the transportation once we were there. It takes around 3 hours from Iwokrama to Surama. We paid 90 US for the both of us. It is expensive, but transportation in the interior is expensive. Take advantage of the ride. Both the driver and maybe also your travel partners might have lots of stories to tell you about the management of the place.
We contacted the people in Surama through their website. Vanessa helped us with the bookings, and she was extremely useful and nice. They have satellite internet, so they reply very fast. It is not necessary to pay in advance. They offer a wide range of packages. We decided to do the Burro Burro adventure because we thought it was the most interesting one. And we don't regret at all. For detailed information about itineraries and prices, check their website.
When we arrived to Surama, we met with Jackie. When we contacted by email, we were told that the resort was full, so we would need to sleep out of the resort every night. However, once we arrived, Jackie informed us that we could spend two nights if we wanted in the resort. One of us had stomach problems, so we agreed to it.
Our first day we had a village tour with Mark, our guide. He is great guy. Don't forget to bring water, as the walk from the resort to the village don't have many shades. Guyana's Sun can roast a white person pretty fast. We enjoyed it, especially because we helped Marisa with some dancing steps for a choreography they were preparing. However, if we would come back, we would go directly to the river, and spend 2 nights in the camp in the riverside instead of 2 nights in the resort. As we said, we prefered to stay because with some stomach complications. That same day we also enjoyed a night walk in the forest close to the resort. Marks ability to identify wildlife in the dark was astonishing.

Our second day, after breakfast, we departed to the Burro Burro river. Mark was our guide, and Ian helped us with the cooking and the boat. We felt really privileged for having two people traveling with us. At the end of the day we were only two people. The walk from the resort to the harbor where we took the boat Took around an hour. Most of the time you
walk on the shade, so it was not too bad. While they were preparing the boat,
they realized that we couldn’t take a traditional one, because the ones
available where too big. Then, people of Bush Masters (hardcore experience by
yourself in the jungle) came out. They really looked exhausted. We felt very
happy for having our great guides. The ride from the harbor to the Carahaa Camp
took around an hour. It was BEAUTIFUL. We even spent some time fishing. We don’t
specially like fishing, so we were happy that we didn’t get anything.
We loved the camp. As you can see in the pictures, it is very basic, but it allows you to stay in real contact with the river and the forest. I will add more information about our days there once I am finished with the website, but I definitely recommend at least one night there. UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
